What is Counselling?

What is Counselling?

Counselling and psychotherapy offer a chance to feel heard whole-heartedly. The warm, non-judgmental space your therapist offers can enhance your wellbeing and stimulate effective change. In collaboration with your therapist, you will have the opportunity to understand yourself more deeply and tap into strategies which will help you negotiate the challenges in life.

How does it work?

We can work together over a short or long-term period. There is no right or wrong, just what feels right for you, based on your needs. Trained in a variety of modalities, your Pure Counsellor and Psychotherapist will tailor the therapeutic approach to help you get the most out of therapy.

“Will I just be talking?”

That depends if it is helpful to you. Some people really enjoy the chance to come and have a good chat. To feel heard, understood and valued by someone who isn’t a family member or friend- someone warm, impartial, and interested. Others might feel more at ease being creative or engaging in something visual or practical. Quite often there will be a mix of approaches appropriate to you in the moment. Regardless, be prepared to talk. Rich, and exciting exploration can come from all the above. You will be supported throughout the process and most people find that any apprehension they had, quickly fades away.

Our First Contact

We will offer you a free initial phone call (roughly 30 minutes in length). This call allows you to tell us a little bit about you and your hopes for counselling. It is also a lovely opportunity to ask any questions you might have, and for you get a feel for us. It is important that you feel comfortable and happy with your choice of therapist; the therapeutic relationship is where the magic of therapy really takes place.

Little tip for anyone looking for therapy: It is quite alright to decide after the initial phone call that something different might be for you. Therapists don’t take it personally. What’s more, they often know lots of other therapists too. Let the therapist know the qualities and attribute you would like to work with, and they might be able to signpost you in the right direction (therapists are jolly good like that).

“Someone ‘stern and analytical’ you say? I might know just the person!”
